🍿 The Big Picture
Studio reboots and sequels continue to dominate the box office, but for how long? On the bright side, the numbers for Lilo and Stitch and Mission: Impossible 8 remain solid, and the weekend projections for the latest Karate Kid look good. But are there clouds on the horizon? The upcoming releases of Superman (a reboot), Jurassic World Rebirth (a sequel) and Fantastic Four (another MCU film) may tell us how much gas is left in the sequel tank. Meanwhile, edgier movie brands such as A24, Neon and MUBI have all the rizz, scooping up awards and investment capital.

Karate Kid: Legends is expected to bring in $25-30 million over the weekend, as the summer movie season continues to outperform. (Variety)
