It's Wednesday, May 28th. Here's what's happening.

The Big Picture

Hollywood is trying to piece together just what to make of a huge Memorial Day box office and a subdued Cannes. Lilo and Stitch and the latest Mission: Impossible outperformed expectations at home, yet distributors Neon and Mubi gobbled up foreign films over in France. Meanwhile, Texas passed a bill to massively beef up incentives to boost film and TV production share. Movie stocks sold off slightly.

🎥 Extra Coverage

Lionsgate has released the trailer for Good Fortune, a new comedy starring Aziz Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen. Ansari is also the writer/director on the project. (Deadline)

With new legislation, Texas is set to significantly boost its film and TV production incentives to $300 million every two years through 2035, aiming to keep local stories from being filmed out of state. (Deadline)

Criterion has (as usual) a fantastic wrap-up of the prize winners from Cannes. (Criterion)

Disney's live-action Lilo and Stitch continues to surpass all box office expectations, blowing past $400 million globally already. (Hollywood Reporter)

If you are looking for access to cinematic gems that you won't find on many streamers, library-based Kanopy is a great option (plus, it's free). (Observer)
